What is web hosting?
Web hosting is a service that makes your website accessible on the internet. When you create a website, all its files, images, and database content need to be stored on a server — a powerful computer that is always on and connected to the internet. That server is what we provide.
Anyone who types your domain name into a browser is served those files from our server in milliseconds. Without hosting, your website simply cannot exist on the web.
What does a hosting plan include?
- Disk space — storage for your website files — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, videos, and everything else
- MySQL database — a database for dynamic websites and applications like WordPress, WooCommerce, or custom web apps
- Email accounts — professional email addresses at your own domain (e.g. contact@yourdomain.com)
- Free SSL certificate — encrypts the connection between your visitors and your server; required for the padlock icon and HTTPS in browsers
- PHP — server-side scripting language used by WordPress, Laravel, and most web platforms; version selectable in Plesk
What about the domain name?
Hosting and a domain name are two separate things. Hosting is the server that stores your files. A domain name (e.g. yourbusiness.com) is the address people type to reach your site.
You can register a domain anywhere and then point it to our hosting by updating the DNS records at your registrar. We will show you exactly how to do that.
